Round 3: Wasps Netball Sting with a 69-37 Win against UWS Sirens

23rd February 2018

It was never going to be an easy game against last years champions at their home ground as UWS Sirens saw Wasps round up Round 3 with a 69-37 win.

UWS Sirens starting 7 were: GK Nicole Aiken-Pinnock; GD Leah Kennedy; WD Claire Brownie; C
Sara Bayman; WA Nicola McCleery; GA Vanessa Walker and GS Bethan Goodwin took to court for the first time in the 2018 season.

The Team started strong in the first quarter. Bayman engaged in a good mid-court battle with Clarke and Haythornthwaite around the attacking circle, limiting Wasps to a four-goal advantage at the end of the first quarter. Wasps upped their intensity in the second quarter, building momentum and doubling their advantage. Third and fourth quarters proved difficult for UWS Sirens to close the gap as Wasps built an unassailable lead of 32 by the end.

Head Coach Tanya Dearns said: “Very disappointed in the score line. Obviously we had wanted to give a better account of ourselves. We showed great resilience and fight in the first quarter which we should have carried into the second quarter. However, a couple of uncharacteristic errors straight after the break and Wasps, being the class side they are, pounced and punished us. It has been a tough first three rounds meeting 2017’s top three teams, all away from home, so we are looking forward to having our UWS Sirens’ faithful behind us at Emirates on Monday against Team Northumbria.

Q1: 16-12
Q2: 34-21
Q3: 55-29
Q4: 69-37

Next Game: UWS Sirens vs Team Northumbria, Monday 26th February, 7pm.
