Round 14: UWS Sirens delight home crowds with well deserved win against Team Bath

UWS Sirens please home crowds with overdue and well earned win at the Emirates Arena against Team Bath in their first game of the double-header weekend.


UWS Sirens starting seven were: GS Slater, GA Walker, WA Murphy, C Bayman, WD Brownie, GD Nicholl and GK Aiken Pinnock.


UWS Sirens started the match with first centre pass, and were the first to get a point on the board. UWS Sirens defense created immediate impact from the outset; the partnerships between Aiken Pinnock, Nicholl, Brownie and Bayman twinned with numerous intercepts lead the first quarter score line in favour of UWS Sirens, 14-9.


Quarter two, and no changes to the team were made. Aiken Pinnock and Nicholl got into their rhythm following a series of tips from Aiken Pinnock into Nicholl, who commenced the drive back to the UWS Sirens shooting circle. UWS Sirens possession was fast paced as they raced through the court, and added more points to the board. Team Bath converted a few goals in the last minute of game play, but UWS Sirens lead the game with a 6-goal advantage to take into the second half, 28-22.

Team Bath stepped it up a notch in quarter three with the game becoming increasingly physical from the whistle blow.  Every player from both teams gave it their all. Lewis made an impact for Team Bath by adding more points to the scoreboard, however UWS Sirens remained controlled and continued to dictate game play, with Nicholl and Brownie continually forcing Bath into pressured passes. Quarter three score, 42-30.


Team Bath quickly pick up 4 points in comparison to UWS Sirens 1 point in the opening minutes of quarter four. UWS Sirens continued the lead, but Bath on the attack forced UWS Sirens to make small errors that were converted by the opposition. However, a full team performance by the initial starting seven allowed UWS Sirens to take the win, 51-43.
