Meet Our Partners – The University of the West of Scotland
1st November 2016
The University of the West of Scotland is one of Scotland’s largest modern universities. It aims to have a transformational influence on the economic, social and cultural development of the West of Scotland, and beyond, by providing relevant, high quality, inclusive higher education and innovative and useful research. The University aims to make the communities it serves more successful; and create opportunities for all to participate.
Professor Craig Mahoney, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of UWS, said: “The introduction of the Sirens franchise to the Vitality Netball Superleague is a hugely important development not just for netball but for sport, especially women’s sport, across Scotland. We are absolutely delighted that UWS will be playing such an important role in supporting this development and in creating success for the team over the coming seasons. The Sirens comprise an incredible group of athletes who I am sure will make a huge impact on the league when it gets underway in February. We share the team’s vision of excellence and ambition to establish Scottish netball as world leading.”
Their involvement with the Sirens franchise will bring significant opportunities, for netball and for the University. Proposals for multidisciplinary project work by UWS research students will see close involvement with the Sirens in sport performance support and sport and community development activities. UWS undergraduate students will be involved in a range of events management projects as well as ongoing promotional support. For the University the collaboration will help raise awareness of UWS in new markets, at home and internationally, and bring mutual benefits through brand association.
Sirens are delighted that UWS are their Principal Partners, and in turn UWS are proud to be linked to this exciting sports opportunity and to be supporting the development of netball in Scotland and further afield.
